Sweet Spot%
Sweet Spot Rate
The share of batted balls with a launch angle between 8 and 32 degrees.
33.7%2026 MLB average (2025: 34.1%)
Simple explanation
When people say a ball came off the sweet spot of the bat, they mean it was hit square. Statcast defined it by launch angle instead of a spot on the bat: anything between 8 and 32 degrees, roughly line drives and low fly balls.
Balls in that range don't die in the infield like grounders or float up harmlessly like pop-ups. A higher rate means a hitter keeps sending the ball out at angles that tend to become hits.

Detailed explanation
It only looks at the angle, not how hard the ball was hit. That's why the MLB glossary suggests pairing it with hard-hit rate (95 mph or more). Barrels are the category that combines speed and angle.
Two hitters can have the same average launch angle while one sends most balls between 8 and 32 degrees and the other alternates between grounders and pop-ups. Sweet spot rate shows that difference right away.
On Baseball Savant leaderboards it's labeled LA SwSp%.
